VIC Customised Ford Transit Crew Bus Supplied By David Fishwick
Here at David Fishwick's we're always keen to lend a helping hand for a good cause, and when approached by local charity Veterans In Communities (VIC) who provide valuable help to ex-service personnel in and around Rossendale, Lancashire for a vehicle that would help them in their daily operations we were ideally placed to provide something up to the job.
Originally looking for a smaller crew-bus type vehicle to enable transportation of both charity members and equipment to work sites within the region, we identified that a 17 Seat Transit Minibus, with some modifications would be within reach (thanks to funding provided by the Armed Forces Covenant) and provide both a much greater carrying capacity and increased longevity thanks to the legendary durability of the RWD Transit platform) - after selecting a lightly used example, we set our in-house coachbuilding team the task of converting it in accordance with VIC's brief.
First up was to remove a proportion of the seating in the rear of the vehicle and replace it with a cargo area that incorporates a half height bulkhead with access door (to preserve an emergency exit route), two-tone carpet trimmed plywood window coverts, a high powered LED working light and a number of tie-down eyelets fixed to the floor using the factory hardpoints to secure heavy loads in transit.
With the interior completed, the vehicle was sent through our workshop to have a comprehensive mechanical and cosmetic inspection; a standard procedure performed on all used van's and minibuses' sold here at David Fishwick's that see's our team go through the vehicle with a fine tooth comb replacing any worn components (such as brake pads / discs / suspension bushes .etc) broken trim and of course the engine filters and fluids, before undertaking a deep interior clean and buffing the paintwork back up to a deep shine so it looks like new.
Finally we worked in conjunction with Roger & Bob at VIC to design an eye catching livery for the vehicle which would provide key information and ensure maximum visibility when the vehicle is in use, making maximum use of the now redundant rear windows and the charity's signature colorscheme. Our approved signwriters Grafx in Clithero converted the deigns to high quality 3M vinyl and expertly applied them to the vehicle to produce a completely unique Ford Transit minibus that we hope will serve the team well.
Appropriately, the VIC bus's first task brought it right back to our showroom in Colne - where the team have been employed to help with a little spring cleaning over the following weeks; building a new retaining wall between our minibus and commercial forecourts, painting the wrought iron railings that surround the site, restoring our indoor showroom space and landscaping our vehicle storage area to provide greater capacity and improve access - hopefully just the start of a long relationship between David Fishwick and Veterans In Communities.
